[30DSC] 06 – a song that reminds you of somewhere

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah – Details of the War

Runner-up: The Postal Service – Sleeping in (for exactly the same reason :))

I was one of the cool kids, back in 2005. I was a fan of CYHSY, and had my ticket for their show in the pocket before the mainstream indie folks even knew about the existence of the band. Proof? After I bought my ticket, the show in the Ancienne Belgique moved from the Club (capacity: 250) to the “Zaal” (Hall) (capacity: 2000). And it was (nearly) sold out! But I don’t need to proof anything to anyone. The reason why I chose this song for “a song that reminds you of somewhere” is because the self titled album literally camped in my CD player for about 2 months, without every leaving the player. It was in my first year at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, I didn’t have a computer to keep me busy in the evenings, so the only thing I could do in my 3m x 4m room was listen to music and study. So practically, all I did was listen to this album, never hesitating to sing shriek along.
Now, 6 years later, each time I hear Details Of The War I literally smell and feel that small room where all the “magic” happened. My first real steps in the indie genre, my effort to catch up with approx. 10 years of TV history, etc. Good times!
